Ferrule is an important part of a makeup brush, it connects brush head and handle. Ferrule shapes can be straight or taper; lines can be even or convex; surfaces treatment can be single oxidation or double oxidation,logos on it can be laser, hot stamping or silk printing.
Aluminum and copper are the most applicable ferrule materials.
After communicating with many clients and users, we find that some clients do not pay much attention to ferrule material. Here are the difference between aluminum ferrule and copper ferrule as follows:
► Aluminum ferrule: can be anodized to a variety of colors. Different thickness, brightness and oxidation lead to different price.
► Copper ferrule: the cost is normally 4-5 times to aluminum; the hardness is 10 times to aluminum ferrule. Copper ferrule is thicker/heavier/brighter/durable than aluminum ferrule. It can be plated into many colors. If clients require some special colors, the price may be higher.
However, after plating or anodizing with difference colors, we may not distinguish them by brightness. The following are tips to distinguish copper ferrule from aluminum ferrule:
1. Copper ferrule is much heavier than aluminum;
2. Copper ferrule is thicker than aluminum ferrule；
3. Some cheap aluminum ferrules will be easily scratched, however copper won’t.
So during customizing makeup brushes, shall we use copper ferrules or aluminum ferrules on our brushes? It depends on your budget and target market. Many luxurious brands only accept copper ferrule due to its brightness and luxurious, as they focus on top clients, so they use the most quality materials for each part: top grade animal/synthetic hair, copper ferrule, ebony handles. Otherwise, it is not necessary to pay an extra cost on ferrules, use a better hair material will be priority. After all, bristle is the most important part of a makeup brushes, and users can directly feel the quality by touching the hair.
